Kieran Riley, Dylan Hessey and Irek Rizarev top of the qualifying round
BMX starts to roll in Central Park, with the qualifiers of a qualifying round for Paris 2024, where the British riders Kieran Riley, also known as the triple flair man, and Dylan Hessey dominated the round with great tricks perfectly clean and touching all the modules of the park.
The qualifiers produced some great tricks in a central park full of onlookers who crowded around to watch the competition. Jacob Thiem landed a 360 double whip to bar that had the crowd and judges going wild. Quentin Morien, meanwhile, secured his place in the semi-final with a gravity-defying superman 2 seatgrab that left the judges in awe.
Irek Rizarev, in his first appearance at Extreme Barcelona, took third place with a very clean round with big tricks like a backflip and trick combinations with his now classic ‘no hands’.
The world’s top 24 riders will meet again tomorrow in Central Park for the semi-final, 10 riders will advance to the next round and only 3 will be crowned as the grand champions of Extreme Barcelona 2022. For many, the road to Paris hinges on these qualifying spots, access is free.
The negative note of the day has been Marin Rantes who in training has collided with another athlete suffering a broken collarbone. From the organization of Extreme Barcelona we wish him a speedy recovery.
