More than 3,000 students from Barcelona’s schools and high schools enjoy skateboarding and scootering through classes and demos.
With the 2026 edition of Extreme Barcelona (September 4-6) just around the corner, the event’s core goal remains unchanged since its inception: bringing urban sports to as many people as possible. That is why, once again, forces have been joined with the Barcelona City Council and El Consell de l’Esport Escolar to bring skateboarding and scootering to local schools.
More than 3,000 students from 65 schools and high schools across the city enjoyed several sports days at Parc del Fòrum and La Marina skatepark in Zona Franca. The youth, ranging from 3rd grade (primary) to 11th grade (1st year of baccalaureate), learned the basics of safe skating. The sessions were divided into 30-minute stations where the kids—always wearing helmets and pads—received instruction and practice adapted to various levels. The days culminated in thrilling demonstrations by the athletes and coaches in the small bowl at Zona Franca and the Fòrum skatepark.
The goal of this school program is to help children discover new sports, try different disciplines, and achieve personal athletic milestones. Furthermore, it acts as a platform to build a foundational grassroots base for athletes who could go far competitively in the future. This is especially relevant today, as both skateboarding and BMX are now fully established Olympic sports, having debuted at Tokyo 2020, continued at Paris 2024, and secured their spots for Los Angeles 2028.
