The city of Barcelona starts the remodeling works of Sants, one of the most iconic skate spots around the world.
-
The new square will be very similar to the original and will allow skateboarding and other urban sports.

The Sants skate spot, officially known as Plaça dels Països Catalans, has long been a key meeting point for Barcelona’s skate community and one of the most famous spots in the world. However, the deterioration of the square and plans to expand the adjacent Sants Station have raised concerns about its future.
In response, local skateboarders formed the SNT4EVER association to advocate for the preservation and improvement of this iconic spot. They have been actively engaged in discussions with the City Council with the goal of ensuring that the redesign of the space continues to allow skateboarding.
Despite these efforts, in July 2024, SNT4EVER expressed frustration at the delays in formal meetings with municipal authorities to define the redesign of the plaza.
Work is underway and the plaza will officially close from January 2025, for a year and a half. The design of the new square will be the same as it was originally designed in the 1980s and 1990s.

- On February 4, 2025 the square was completely closed.
- On February 5, the renovation work began, which is expected to last 1 year and a half (with possible delays).
- The reform will consist of rebuilding the square as it was originally, recovering fountains, stairs and tables.
- The use of skateboarding is guaranteed according to the commitment of the mayor and the Sants council.
- During the works, the City Council has promised a provisional space for skateboarding.
