hoop streetball community
  • Extreme Barcelona 2025 will feature the Hoop Streetball Community. This innovative project, with its own court and app, will feature many challenges and surprises.

Extreme Barcelona continues to focus on 3×3 basketball as one of its mainstays in its urban sports offering. Once again this year, the Parc del Fòrum will feature courts and a host of activities to fully enjoy this basketball game, which is very popular in street settings. From September 5th to 7th, Extreme Barcelona will once again have the support of Ball Inn, a repeat partner of Basket 3×3, and Hoop Streetball Community, a project that aims to revolutionize 3×3 basketball.

After winning the Sportstech Startup Challenge 2025 thanks to its smart hoops, this project, promoted by Badalona City Council and the Catalan Basketball Federation, will bring a third basketball court to the Parc del Fòrum. In addition to this innovative playground, equipped with a digital hoop that encourages user interaction, Hoop will also deploy a free app for managing this hoop, as well as several activation actions to encourage participation and physical activity among young people. In a society where 80% of adolescents do not engage in any physical activity and spend an average of four hours a day in front of a screen, sports like 3×3 Basketball can be the solution to making sports a part of their lives. With more than 110 million players, street basketball is the number one urban sport in the world and has long been a driving force for socialization and sports practice.

The main objective of the project is to evaluate the social, sporting, and urban impact of the incorporation of smart hoops, positioning basketball as a catalyst for physical activity in Smart Cities, where connected street furniture becomes a fundamental part of the infrastructure and the sports industry. The project includes the installation of interactive baskets—like the one at Extreme Barcelona—and the launch of a free app that will allow users to manage them, encourage participation, and promote physical activity. The baskets are equipped with a digital system that integrates touch screens and mobile device connectivity, offering an innovative and interactive gaming experience.
